Destiny 2: Bungie to address “bounty hoarding” before next season, Crimson Days dated

With Season of the Drifter kicking off in March, Bungie is making changes to how bounties grant powerful rewards. The studio has also provided dates for the annual Crimson Days event.

In order to level the playing field, Bungie said bounties acquired during previous seasons will have “a maximum possible power reward.”

The change will prevent the need to “hoard bounties” and raid keys granting powerful rewards until the Power cap is raised. Hoarding is basically a way to get a reach a new Power cap in a quick manner. People have done this in MMOs for ages, so it’s nothing new, but Bungie is trying to deter the practice.

Bungie used the Wanted: Silent Fang bounty as an example of how it plans to combat the issue. Let’s say you completed the Wanted: Silent Fang bounty during the Season of the Forge, but had yet to claim the reward. If you claim it after Season of the Drifter starts, the reward will have a maximum Power of 650 instead of 700.  The cap is applied to both bounties on acquisition.

Because completed bounties have “no mechanism to dismantle,” keeping completed bounties could have a negative impact during the first week of a new season. Bungie said holding on to bounties will lock you out of an “uncapped” bounty which would become available at  the beginning of the season.

“We strongly recommend either completing or discarding any powerful rewards bounties before the new season begins,” said Bungie. “Completing these bounties after the season changes could result in missing out on the new season’s version of the bounty with the higher Power cap.”

It also looking to address stockpiling Raid Keys. Details are still being finalized.

In the weekly update, it was also announced Mayhem returns next week. The fun starts with the reset on Tuesday, January 29 and ends the following week on February 5.

The Valentine’s Day-themed Crimson Days returns this year, and the love-fest will kick off on February 12, and end on February 19. If you missed out on any of the cool items from last year, you’ll have another chance at it.

Crimson Days 2019 will be similar to last year, but new rewards and ways of obtaining them have been added. Expect more details closer to launch.

Reminder: update 2.1.4, drops next week and will feature a large amount of buffs to Supers. You can also expect a few changes to bring some hot abilities down. Valor Rank resets will come with the Redrix’s Broadsword quest, and issue with Enhancement Cores not being awards has been fixed, and some tweaks have been made to Grenade Launchers. You can also expect more weapon re-tooling.

Check back with us on Tuesday, and we’ll have the patch notes posted for you.
