PUBG PC update 26 makes flare guns permanent, adds new vehicles, a fix for rate of fire bug, more

The 26th update for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds was released on PC test servers this morning.

Today’s PUBG update, as with all of them, will spend a few days on test servers before rolling out for the live version. In this case, this transition is planned for Tuesday, February 26. The 12GB patch’s new content is mainly Vikendi-focused, but there are a couple of other interesting additions for all maps.

First, the flare gun, previously available only during specific events, is now part of the world loot on all maps. Though it’s incredibly rare, you can expect it to behave as it did before, with some tweaks. Firing it outside the safe zone will spawn in an armoured UAZ, whereas firing it inside will call in an airdrop.

This updated version, however, will only work after the first blue zone phase. In other words, you may not be able to call something in as soon as you find it. Further, the game will display a message when a nearby player has called in a supply drop, and even mark its location on the map. It seems the risk is now greater than ever, but judging by the loot you get, it’s probably going to be worth it.

The Snowbike, which was abruptly pulled from patch 25 just before release, has returned as part of the new update. There’s also a new Vikendi-exclusive vehicle: Zima, a UAZ replacement that seats 4, and controls better on snow compared to other road vehicles.

There’s another major feature in today’s update that won’t make it out when it becomes available on live servers next week. That being an improvement to the issue that causes weapon rate of fire to be affected by framerate.

PUBG Corp. wants to be sure the system is ready before it hits live servers, so expect this change to evolve in the coming weeks. The update also comes with a few enhancements to the store preview feature, and the replay editor.

Head over to the official blog for a full round-up of the changes.
