Destiny 2: Forsaken – Gambit will support join-in-progress and quit penalties at launch

Over the weekend, Bungie made Gambit, Destiny 2: Forsaken’s new PvEvP mode, available to play as part of a limited trial.

The trial was available to all Destiny 2 players, and though many found the mode fun, the most common complaint has been about quitters.

Gambit rounds go on for a while, and because of the mode’s reliance on teamwork, losing a player comes with a massive hit to the team score. Sadly, the Gambit trial didn’t allow for join-in-progress, which meant that players who lost a teammate had to endure until the round was over, or back out themselves.

The good news is; Bungie has confirmed that at launch, Gambit will indeed support join-in-progress. What’s more, quitting in the middle of a Gambit match will incur penalties.

Senior technical designer Peter Sarrett revealed this on Reddit, putting players’ minds at ease.

Gambit, in case you missed it, is a new competitive mode that blends PvE and PvP.

In it, two teams fight waves of AI enemies separately. Each enemy defeated drops a token, which players can bank to spawn a boss. During the round, both teams are able to send over more enemies to either side, or invade their opponents’ play area to disrupt their scoring.

Gambit launches tomorrow, as part of the big Forsaken expansion. Last week’s patch 2.0.0, and this week’s Forsaken day one update both bring a massive list of changes to the core game, to say nothing of the new content.

Destiny 2: Forsaken is out September 4 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
