We’re hours away from the launch of Far Cry 5, and there’s plenty of time to check out the reviews.
Far Cry 5 takes the series to America for the first time. The fictional Hope County in Montana is ruled by a religious cult called the Project at Eden’s Gate.
The cult is ruled by Jacob and his siblings, all lunatics in their own right. For the first time, the entire game is playable in co-op after the opening mission. Only the host gets to keep story progress, though.
Outside of the big single-player campaign, Far Cry 5 also brings back the map editor. It’s been greatly expanded with assets from other Ubisoft games and is now referred to as Far Cry Arcade.
Far Cry 5 does not have loot boxes, but it does have a virtual currency you can spend on cosmetic items, and XP boosts.
Here are the reviews we’ve spotted so far. As ever, scores are out of ten except where otherwise noted.
- The VG247 review – The best the series has been since 2012
- Eurogamer – No score
- The Guardian – 3/5
- USgamer – 4.5/5
- Destructoid – 7.5
- GamesBeat – 85/100
Far Cry 5 is out March 27 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
